Makeup artist Sofia Tilbury shares a complete beauty breakdown, including her tried-and-true “Sandwich Hack.”
Although Demi Moore’s character in The Substance goes through a few unsettling beauty transformations, the actress went for classic glamour at the 2025 Oscars. To complement her dazzling crystal-embellished Armani Privé gown and Chopard jewels, Moore and her team wanted her beauty look to be timeless. “Tonight’s look inspiration was all about radiant, fresh skin with pops of color on the cheeks and a sultry sparkle on the eye,” says makeup artist Sofia Tilbury, who created Moore’s look using a suite of Charlotte Tilbury beauty products. “Demi’s gorgeous Armani gown was such a showstopper on the red carpet, so we knew the beauty look had bring the same level of drama.” Hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos also created a classic, loose blowout inspired by a magazine photoshoot that Moore did in the early 2000s, using Moroccanoil products.
To achieve the makeup look, Moore’s glam started with a hydrating skin care routine. “As Charlotte always says, you can’t have a beautiful painting without a beautiful canvas, so this step is critical,” Tilbury says. To give Moore’s skin a fresh base before applying makeup, Tilbury applied the brand’s Magic Cream to wrap the skin in a cocoon of moisture before adding the Invisible UV Flawless Poreless Primer SPF 50.
For her elegant makeup look, Tilbury then used Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood Flawless Filter to give the skin a blurred, perfected look while maintaining a fresh, barely-there finish. “For any areas that needed a bit more coverage, we used Demi’s shade of the Beautiful Skin Radiant Concealer, and then a lighter shade to create an instant ‘lift’ effect by gliding it upwards over the inner and outer corners of the eyes, along the smile lines and outer corners of the lips, and down the center of the face,” Tilbury explains. “It’s an application hack I absolutely love—it snatches the face in seconds.” On Moore’s eyes, Tilbury opted for the Super Nudes Easy Eye Palette to give some depth and dimension before adding a hint of shimmer with the Uptown Girl Luxury Palette.
To prep for a night filled with champagne toasts, Tilbury has a special trick. She used the Lip Cheat Liner in Pillow Talk Medium and K.I.S.S.I.N.G. Lipstick in Candy Chic to give Moore the perfect shade. “After we lined Demi’s lip with Charlotte’s Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk Medium, we applied a very thin layer of the Airbrush Flawless Finish [powder],” Tilbury reveals. “It’s a great lip hack for anyone looking to create a lip look that will last through dinner, drinks, cheek kisses, you name it.”
Lastly, Tilbury employed another special technique that she and Charlotte swear by to make Moore’s makeup last well into the after-parties, which they call the “Sandwich Hack.” Tilbury shares: “What you do is apply a thin mist of the spray all over the face, giving it a moment to set into the skin. Then you take Charlotte’s Airbrush Flawless Finish and gently press it into the T-zone, eliminating any unwanted oiliness or shine. This gave Demi’s skin such a beautiful, blurred mesh effect—perfect for being photographed on the red carpet.”
