The start of spring is the perfect time to try out a new hairstyle, and one of the easiest ways to switch up your look is to opt for bangs. Rest assured that there is a fringe style for every face, regardless of its shape or your hair type. Explore six versions to consider, below.

Baby bangs
It was the haircut heard around the world. Emma Stone chopped off her long waves and showed off her new pixie crop – complete with Mia Farrow-esque baby bangs – while walking the carpet at the 2025 Golden Globes, where actors Quinta Brunson and Janelle James also showed off similar short styles. Consider it confirmation that this haircut will be big in 2025.

Supermodel bangs
Part Y2K revival (team side parting!), part ’90s Cindy Crawford, side-swept bangs are everywhere right now. Favoured by Heidi Klum, Lily Collins and a redheaded Keke Palmer, this fringe looks a bit like it has been blown to the side by the wind, and works particularly well if you’re growing out your bangs but stuck at the in-between stage. Fix them in place with a little hairspray.

Edgy cyber-punk bangs
Rihanna makes her own beauty rules – one of which is that a fringe doesn’t all have to be the same length. Quite the contrary, in fact. While attending the FNAA in New York, Rih supported her beau A$AP Rocky while serving ’90s hair looks. While the style is experimental (and perhaps not for everybody) it is undeniably fun.

Curtain bangs
Curtain bangs flatter every face, regardless of shape. Different parts of the face can be accentuated, depending on where the ends fall. Those that extend to the corners of your mouth, as seen on actor Priyanka Chopra, will draw focus to the lips. Cheekbones are emphasised when the bangs reach the tip of the nose (see Emily Ratajkowski).
“Curtain bangs act as a frame for the face,” explains hairstylist Maximilian Meyer. According to Meyer, curtain bangs work best in normal to full hair with a slight wave. If it’s too straight or fine, he says, it may not have the necessary bounce to pull the look off. His top styling tip is to use a round brush when blow drying. “Blow dry the bangs away from the face, making sure the hair is damp to start to achieve the best look,” adds hairstylist Chris Appleton. “Rollers are also a great option if you want to add additional bounce after using heat.” For the best results, use them overnight.

Wispy bangs
The Y2K revival continues. One look that is currently popular with stars such as Nina Dobrev and Suki Waterhouse? Wispy bangs that fall loosely over the face, allowing the forehead to peek through. The advantage of these bangs is that, as with curtain bangs, it is easy to let them grow out if you want to try another look.
Be aware, however, that ultra-fine bangs can quickly become greasy. To prevent this from happening, spray some dry shampoo onto your hair immediately after washing. The familiar phrase that “an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure” is true in this case. Wispy bangs help to soften faces that are particularly angular and striking. “This look is suitable for almost any texture of hair,” notes Meyer.

Full bangs
Any article about bangs has to include Taylor Swift – the singer has made the style her trademark. She usually wears her fringe wide and straight, but also wears her natural curls too, on occasion. “The look particularly suits angular faces,” notes Meyer, who adds that “people with small faces should avoid this type of fringe, because the face can end up looking compressed”. He recommends using a paddle brush to blow-dry your bangs downwards to get them flat, then alternating to the right and left, and finally very lightly shaping them over a round brush. “This will create natural volume,” he adds.
