If you have fine, thin hair you may feel like you have very few styling options. But, the truth is a great hair style can make it look like you have thicker, fuller hair. All it takes is a few good styling products, a teasing comb and a little time.
Try these easy hair styles at home and get excited to look in the mirror!
1. The Puffed-Up Ponytail
A full, high ponytail will create the illusion of thicker hair by giving you volume on top and obscuring your part. To get this casual, elegant look, it’s best to not wash your hair for a day and use a little dry shampoo instead. Start by lifting the hair on top of your head, about the width of your eyebrows, and gently backcomb (from ends to root) to tease your hair. Work your way back until all the hair on top of your head is teased, then pull back into a high pony tail and secure with an elastic. Next, you can gently pull up on a few sections of hair about an inch away from the elastic, towards your forehead—just make sure you don’t pull any strands completely out. Spritz on a little hair spray to help this voluminous look last all day.
2. Teased Top
One of the best ways to hide thinning hair is to cover your part by pulling the top of your hair back. Similar to the puffed-up ponytail, this style gives you lift on top and creates a full, glamorous look. Start by lifting up the hair on top of your head and gently teasing it. Loosely pull this section of teased hair back over your part and finger comb in place. Secure with bobby pins at the crown, if needed. Leave the rest of your hair down for a sleek look or add big, soft curls to your ends with a large-barrel curling iron. Finish with a little hairspray to help keep your style in place.
3. Deep Side Part
If you have thinning hair, avoid parting your hair in the middle. Instead, try a part three inches off center to add instant lift. For even more volume, spritz on a root spray before you part your hair. If you have longer tresses, try draping all your hair over one shoulder on the opposite side of your part.
4. The Braided Crown
A different twist on the updo, this sweet, yet sophisticated style will add volume to the front of your hair while hiding your part. Start by taking three inches of hair just above your ear and braiding it down toward your shoulder. Next, pull the braid up and over the front of your head like a crown and secure with bobby pins. You can then put your remaining hair in a bun or leave it down. If your hair is too short to braid, try a braided hair piece in a matching color to create this look.
